What is Le Pirate Island, Flores?
Arguably one of the most sought-after hotels in Flores, Indonesia! An adults-only accommodation, Le Pirate is located on a private island. This tropical paradise boasts stunning blue waters filled with turtles, fish, and reef sharks.
When we travel, we often opt to save on accommodation and spend our days exploring outside. However, during our spontaneous trip to Flores, we ended up booking two resorts back-to-back. After an incredible stay at Coconut Beach Resort in Maumere, we flew back to Labuan Bajo and embarked on an hour-long boat transfer to our next destination: Pirate Island.
We spent three nights on Le Pirate Island and decided to split our time between the two accommodation styles. We tested out the restaurant as well as the package deal so we can give you all the details!

Le Pirate Island Indonesia Basics
It is important you have the right expectations before booking your time at Le Pirate Island, per their website:
“Le Pirate Island has limited comfort and facilities due to its location and logistics challenges. Water and supplies are brought daily from the main land and electricity is harvested from the sun. The 3G connection is unreliable. Our staff will do their best to assist you during your stay, however we remind you that Le Pirate Island may not suit every traveller’s expectation”
Le Pirate Island
So, if you want to have super fast wifi to watch Netflix all night or to have steamy showers to end your day… You’re in the wrong place.
BUT, if you are after a barefoot digital detox escape to a remote, beautiful island then this is the place for you!

Eco Friendly
At Le Pirate Island, they generate electricity from the sun, making it an eco-friendly hotel. (it also means the power can be iffy) While the website states no wifi, the staff will provide you with a limited-time code if you need to check certain things such as emails.
No Plastic Rule
They have no single-use plastic on the island – how cool is that? So make sure to take out whatever plastic you bring to the Island.
Where is Le Pirate Island?
Located about an hour’s boat journey from Labuan Bajo. Thankfully the office in Labuan Bajo handles all the boat transfers to and from the island so the logistics are as easy as showing up at the right time!
Le Pirate Island Accommodations
There are a couple of different options on the island, from rustic almost hostel-style beach huts, to beachfront glamping options. We decided to split our time between both options to find out if the upgrade was worth it!
We will get into how to get to Le Pirate Island a little later in this blog but, you arrive at the island around 10 am and check-in isn’t until 2 pm (though they do let you through as rooms are ready!).
So, make sure to wear or pack your bathers and a set of island clothes to change into once you arrive.

The Beach Hut
If I asked you to close your eyes and picture a beach up on a private island, I think you would conjure up this exact hut. It is idyllic and photogenic but features very few amenities.
Being the more budget-friendly option, these huts are simple but if you are coming to the island to reconnect with nature and have your toes in the sand as much as possible – then this is the option for you.
The hut features two stories – fancy! The ground floor is an open-air lounge area with a couple of lounge chairs perfect for sunrise and sunset viewing. A simple rail with coat hangers makes for the perfect spot to dry our clothes after swimming.
Upstairs (be careful going up, I almost fell off once) is the sleeping area with a very cozy mattress covered by a mosquito and privacy curtains, plus stunning ocean views. The basic option has a dreamy location; you’ll be waking up with views of crystal-clear water.
This option does, however, come with its challenges. Unfortunately, the beach huts do not have their own bathrooms, this is more of a hostel vibe.

Note: all showers on the island are cold, but if the health gurus are to be believed this is healthier for you anyway!!

Glamping Suite (beachfront)
Designed for those who are looking for a more luxurious island escape. These rooms have more amenities and crucially, a private bathroom.
There are both backstage (i.e. not beachfront) and beachfront options, if you are considering upgrading we say go all in and get the beachfront option!
These rooms are very spacious with extra creature comforts, featuring a cozy large bed, private outdoor shower, and a beautiful patio with loungers looking over your private slice of beach. This option has more privacy and is further from the main area making it feel like you have the island completely to yourself!

Is an upgrade worth it?
As you just read, the beachfront cabin offered all sorts of little luxuries that the beach hut lacked, having a private shower was glorious.
Not to mention it felt as though we had our own private section of beach, I think one couple walked past the whole time we were in the Glamping Sweet.
So, was the upgrade worth it? Absolutely!
While the beach hut was a charming and rustic way to experience Pirate Island, upgrading to the glamping suite allowed us to enjoy the full resort experience. The added space, privacy, and amenities made it feel like a real getaway.
If you’re planning to visit Pirate Island, we’d recommend trying both options for a complete experience—start with a beach hut to get in touch with nature and finish with a bit of luxury in the glamping suite.

Food & Drink at Le Pirate Island
There are multiple options for meals on the island, from an indulgent club package to BYO there is sure to be something for every budget.
A quick note, vegetarian options are available but you will need to let the crew know.
Breakfast
Included breakfast will always be something that excites me no matter what. This one consists of eggs, toast, fruit and some form of fun drink. We found that the breakfast was delicious, though simple. Thankfully, there is also an urn of hot water for tea or coffee (or 5).
Island Club Package
Looking for a more indulgent option? The Island Club Packed might be for you!
The package includes a buffet lunch, a three-course dinner as well as access to Snorkeling gear and Canoeing.
The buffet lunch rotates daily and often consists of BBQ or grilled chicken, fish and/or kebabs as well as a few sides, salads and fruit.
The three-course dinner features an appetiser, an option of main and a sweet treat.
At the time of writing this costs 325k per person, per night ($31 AUD / $21 USD).
👉 BOOK YOUR BEACH HUT: Check Availability 🚨

A la carte
The lunch buffet is 165K IDR ($15.91 AUD / $10.66 USD).
The three-course dinner will set you back 185K IDR ($17.84 AUD / $11.96 USD)
So, if you want to get both of these you are better off organising the club package.
On the a la carte menu you could feed two people with fries (55K), fish and chips (140K) and a Caesar salad (130K) for exactly the same price as one person on the club package.
BYO
Considering the no-plastic rule, I highly doubt it, but I am not 100% sure. I assume you can bring your own snacks etc, but they don’t advertise this (obviously they would prefer you spend money at the restaurant!)
But we felt cheap and had some two-minute noodles we’d been carrying around for a week that we needed to use up.
Luckily, there is an urn for tea and coffee throughout the day so we nabbed a couple of mugs of boiling water and made our noodles, being super careful to keep all rubbish with us to take back to the mainland.
Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend bringing your own food to the island. Mealtimes are a community event and Le Pirate Island is a great place to connect with like-minded people.

What about drinks?
Le Pirate Island makes for a pretty picturesque place to kick back and enjoy a cocktail (or three!). There is a separate bar that has happy hour from 3 pm-7 pm, making it the must-be spot to watch sunset.
There is even a bike that you can jump on to mix your own smoothie!! 👉 BOOK NOW: Check Availability 🚨

Is the Island Club Package Worth It?
Honestly, yes. Just for the convenience and nicety it is worth it! The food across the board is delicious and this doesn’t change if you are or aren’t on the package. But, being there at breakfast, lunch and dinner is an awesome way to chat with the other pirates.
Still, if you: 1. don’t eat much, 2. Have your own snorkel gear or 3. Have looked at the menu and what you choose would be less than 325K per day, then maybe the package isn’t for you!
How do I get to Pirate Island?
First things first, you’ll need to get your Labuan Bajo. There are multiple daily flights to Labuan Bajo Airport (LBJ), from there it is a 10-minute taxi ride to the Le Pirate main office.
The office sits centrally in Labuan Bajo and is only a few minutes from the harbour. This is where you can leave your ‘big bags’ for your journey if you wish to pack light.
How do I get to Le Pirate Island Komodo?
You need to meet at the office at 9:30 a.m., and from there, they take you to their boat. The journey from Labuan Bajo to Le Pirate Island is beautiful and only takes around an hour.
They are also able to arrange a differently timed transfer for an additional charge.

What to do on Le Pirate Island?
Somehow, our days went incredibly quickly when we were on the island. Relaxing has a way of speeding up time somehow.
While we spent a good amount of time reading, eating and enjoying a beer there are plenty of other things you can do on the island.
Full-Day Tour Komodo Island:
You can organise a day trip through Komodo National Park from Le Pirate Island. The cruise requires at least four people to book in order to run, so it’s worth contacting them ahead of time to confirm.
The tour goes for a whopping 12 hours (6 am-6 pm) and will take you out for breakfast onboard the boat, to Padar Island for a morning trek, to swimming/snorkelling spots, for lunch in Pink Beach and of course a visit to Komodo Park.
At the time of writing this tour costs 4,500,000 IDR ($433.91 AUD / $290.98 USD)
To be honest, I would suggest staying a night or two in Labuan Bajo and booking a tour from there.
Note: these costs do not include entry into Komodo National Park.

🌊 Snorkelling:
One of the major bonuses of getting the Club Package is that it includes snorkelling gear. This crystal-clear, bright turquoise water teems with incredible marine life.
I think we saw a turtle every. single. time. we entered the water, not to mention the beautiful coral, abundant fish and even reef sharks. (watch the vlog here)
🥾 Trekking:
Why not go for a hike to the top of the island? There isn’t a clear-cut path, but if you ask the crew for directions, they will help you out!
If you just want a little walk instead, head down the beach to the jetty. Looking down from the jetty to the shore, we saw plenty of baby reef sharks swimming around.
🛶 Canoeing:
Another benefit of the Club Package is the chance to hit the beautifully clear water and explore by kayak.
💪 Hit The Gym:
If you are the kind of person who likes to work out when they are on holiday – Le Pirate Island has you covered in their own unique way. There is a jungle gym for you to work up a sweat on. The best bit? You can just jump into the water after to cool off!
🏓 Volleyball & Table Tennis:
Still looking to entertain yourself or ‘waste’ some time on the island? There is even a sand volleyball court and table tennis table for you to have some fun at.
🍿 Movie Night:
Depending on the weather the crew even set up a projector on the beach for movie night! Pull up a bean bag, grab a cocktail and watch a movie with your toes in the sand.

Le Pirate Island Day Trip
While we would recommend staying for one (or ideally 3) nights to get the full experience if you just want to hang out on a private island for the day you can do that too!
There is a boat shuttle to the island departing Labuan Bajo at 10 am and returning at 2 pm.
The cost for the day trip to Le Pirate Island is 550,000 IDR ($53.05 AUD / $35.54 USD).

Our Le Pirate Island Experience: Stranded on an Island
Picture this: you’re enjoying a cocktail and relaxing in your glamping hut when you suddenly discover that the boat you planned to take back to the mainland won’t arrive because of sudden bad weather. Cue the dramatic music, right?
Luckily, our flights weren’t until the next day so our stress levels weren’t too high. The good news is that because of the bad weather, while we couldn’t get out, it also meant the new pirates couldn’t get it.
So, we got an extra night in our beachfront glamping hut. We did have to pay for our dinner on that night (fair enough), and we just went with the a la carte option.
The next morning, rather than the normal exit time, we got up super early to be on the boat. The crew was super nice and packed everyone a takeaway breakfast to enjoy on the boat journey.
After all, who could complain about an extended stay in paradise?
Shoutout to Seaesta Hotel, who were kind enough to refund us our night’s accommodation with them even though they didn’t need to! 🫶 (read about them here!)

Frequently Asked Questions about Le Pirate Island
What to pack for Le Pirate Island Labuan Bajo:
Your swimwear, sunscreen, bug spray and a good book. Honestly, that is all you need to enjoy your time on the islands. A rule of the island is to be barefoot at all times, so leave your fancy footwear at home for this trip!
How long is the boat?
The boat trip from Labuan Bajo beach to Le Pirate Island takes one hour – and is beautiful!!

How do I get to Le Pirate Island from Bali?
There are other Le Pirate Island Resorts in both Bali (Nusa Ceningan) and Le Pirate Beach Nusa Lembongan Lombok (Gili Meno).
Both Le Pirate Island Bali and Lombok look stunning; however, if you are after the Private Island experience, you will need to head to Flores.
To get there, catch a 1-hour domestic flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo Airport (LBJ), there are several daily flights.
From the Komodo Airport, it is only a 10-minute taxi to Le Pirate Island head office which sits only minutes away from the jetty.
What is Le Pirate Explorer:
The Le Pirate Explorer is a beautiful boat that you can book for day trips or multi-day live-aboard tours. It is arguably one of the most beautiful boats on offer, though that does come with a higher price tag.
If you are looking for a more aesthetic experience, why not have a look if this is available when you are visiting? If not, I would suggest booking a night or two in Labuan Bajo before your island escape and booking a cheaper tour from here. (read more about the options here!)
