Le Pirate Island (Adults-Only Hotels in Flores)

Looking for the ultimate island experience without the mind-blowing price tag?

Le Pirate Island, located just off Labuan Bajo, is our top pick for the best hotel in the area. We stayed in both the beach huts (basic but cozy) and the glamping beachfront huts.

Firstly, there is the Beach Hut, which is basic, with shared bathrooms but has everything you need for an island escape!

Secondly, there is the Glamping Beach Front Huts, if you’re looking for a bit of luxury, we highly recommend upgrading to the glamping option – private bathrooms and sand-free living are well worth it!

To get there, the adventure begins with a scenic water transfer from Labuan Bajo, accessible only by meeting at the Le Pirate Island office. Undoubtedly an exciting and unique way to reach the island, adding to the sense of escape. However, be prepared for the unexpected—unfavorable weather conditions can leave you stranded on this tropical paradise, as we discovered firsthand!

While the food package may not be essential, the unique island experience is something you won’t forget.

Hobbit Hill Hotel

Ruteng is a small town and much farther inland from the city of Labuan Bajo. Therefore there are fewer Ruteng Hotel options to pick from. Despite the lack of options, we were aiming for affordability and landed on the Hobbit Hill Hotel.

This place is run by a local family who has built additional bedrooms onto their family home for travelers to rent. All the rooms have a comfy bed and a standard ensuite. Not to mention a beautiful view right from your doorstep!

The family is very engaged in tourism and offers tours from the accommodation. Consequently, we hired a driver for the day who took us to the Hobbit caves, local markets, and museums in the area.

Maumere is a seaside town with beautiful resorts on the sand. The town itself is famous for Snorkelling tours, jungle hikes, and traditional village tours. However, We did none of that.

That is to say, we came to Maumere with the sole purpose of relaxing at our hotel and that’s exactly what we did!

Coconut Garden Beach Resort

Okay, we’ve told you the best hotel in Labuan Bajo (Le Pirate Island) but this might be the best of all the hotels in Flores Indonesia.

The rooms were basic but very comfortable and the resort itself has a lovely relaxed energy. The food onsite was delicious, cooked fresh, and healthy. You need to tell the kitchen your food order at least 3 hours before your meal. If they don’t have the ingredients they run into town or catch the fish right then. That’s fresh!
